It’s your chance to see some of your favorite independent comics, go to panel discussions and see awesome presentations as well browse through your pick of choice single men at the festival.

Sunday is for the Single Man Geek:
Research shows there are going to be a lot of crafty, intelligent and single women at this BUST Holiday Craftactular holiday event. If you haven’t already bought everyone comics for the holidays, why not try pick up some of the hottest holiday gifts you can find at this BUST event. In addition to selecting some some fine hand made crafts, you can attempt at making impressive conversation by busting out some great lines like “Can I craft your phone number?” and “Craft you out on a date?”. I’m pretty sure Women stuck at a table for several hours are going to enjoy talking with single men hunting for a girlfriend at a feminist craft show. It’s probably what the magazine intended when they decided to put on an event like this.

Basically a bunch of people are going to get together and write letters. Since I’m pretty horrible about writing letters this is going to be a good opportunity to get some letter writing practice in. The party is set for Wednesday, July 22. So I’m collecting addresses from folks. I guess I best get started on my zine for the big fest this weekend.

It will be an amazing time. The only problem that I have with ignite is that they scheduled this event on super Tuesday where many states will be voting in the primaries.

So, if you want to keep an eye on the politics going on join me at Beulahland to watch the results of the voting.
No matter who you support you are more than welcome to show up although most of the crowd will be Obama supporters.

Both events will be worth checking out, it’s unfortunate you will have to decide what one to go to and what one to pass on.

I sent in a proposal a while ago. I probably wrote the thing sometime around 3 in the morning so, I’m not too sure if it sounded coherent or not. You can read all the proposals and submit your own if you would like at the Ignite Portland site. If you are passionate about anything at all and would like to share that passion, you should submit.

The first event was amazing and the upcoming 2nd Ignite event should not be missed!

I hope to be presenting this time, if not, I hope one of you will. It would be great to see the proposal board explode with entries. I certainly can’t wait till the event.

For a while I had thought about taking some life drawing classes, even at the last CFF meeting the conversation came up about getting motivated to do some life drawings. It was always one of those things that I would eventually get around to.
Last night Jason (who happens to be an amazing artist/illustrator) had told me about the event and suggested I check it out. The idea of a burlesque style life drawing session sounds amazing although at the time, I wasn’t really feeling like doing anything, I guess that’s the sign when you actually need to go do something. After checking out the Portland Portland MySpace Page for Dr. Sketchy’s I was sold.

In Portland Dr. Sketchy’s is every Wednesday at Dante’s from 7-9 and cost $6.
There are over 40 Dr. Sketchy’s events around the World that operate similar to the one in Portland, so try to find one near you.

There was only a small crowd there and last night there where 2 female models. I guess most of the time they have a male and a female. Probably 15 artists showed up all with different skill levels. Glancing at some of the peoples work, I was amazed at how they could make something so good so quickly. It was my first time and I have to admit, I was a bit nervous. For some reason one of the models kept making direct eye contact with me ( I suppose everyone felt that way) I had to fight the laughter a little bit as a half naked model was almost trying to make my laugh by locking eyes. I was slightly intimidated too cause I didn’t really want her to see my drawing of her as I struggled along. Next time I go (most likely next week) I kind of know what to expect so, I don’t think I’ll be as nervous and shy about my art.

As far as my art skills go, I have a lot to learn and Dr. Sketchy’s was just what I needed.

Another of my drawings, most of my drawings looked like they had been done by a 12 year old boy after 5 cups of coffee.

As you know matchmaking is big business. It’s hard not to think about how to generate some money from the singles market. I’ve had several great ideas for this industry that at some point I may or may not actually take to the next step.

Date Monstor is an idea I had a while ago that would create an avatar based on how you answer a series of questions. Then you browse peoples avatars and have several virtual dates before actually meeting if that may be the case.

A more recent idea of mine that I’ve been developing with a couple of other people is the Adventure Social Club. In one sentence you will get the idea of this… Organized Group Blind Dating.

The Adventure Social Club is going to be a very interesting venture that I hope we will have rolled out in the next few months.

I’ve got number of other ideas for the singles out there but most are still in early stages of development. Luckily there from time to time there are some great events like the following that I was invited to.

This is a gathering of the bright, hopeful, handsome, beautiful, the not so beautiful or handsome; the funny, the serious; those that love to cook, those that love to go out; the ones that want children, the ones that have children, the ones that don’t even like children. A room of creative types, business heads, computer geeks, fashionistas, writers, dancers, the outdoorsy, those that go to a movie when the sun comes out… We’re going to do some introductions, listen to some great DJ’d music (old & new), dance (?), eat some snacks, have a drink or two, invest a little time in finding your new love…

The invite goes out to any singles that would be interested in going to this event. I’ve never been to a singles event like this and it certainly gives me that anxious nervous exciting feeling. I have a feeling this will be a great way to dip my toe in the water and get an idea of what it’s all about. The Maiden in the Midst is such a laid back bar with a great atmosphere, I think it will be easy to be comfortable in that setting despite being surrounded by a number of intimidating singles.

I’m planning on going to this event and I hope to drag some friends and readers out to it too.
Perhaps after Saturdays event, I might just find the beautiful, smart, funny, mad genius, philanthropist girl that I’ve been dreaming about.

Now how could I pass on this opportunity?.

I’m not totally sure what to expect from it but, it does seem like a great event.

This site certainly gives more info about the event than Missing Link does, I guess they have to live up to their name. It seems like the event has potential to be a giant art swap meet or something. I think it might be worth investigating.

Body Worlds 4 the Poor, in 5 easy steps.
Step 1: Find a bunch of people who are willing to stand around naked in a variety of poses.
Step 2: Find a place that will allow me to have a bunch of people standing around naked.
Step 3: Book a day and time for the exhibit.
Step 4: Promote the exhibit.
Step 5: Win the praise of the community by providing such a wonderful option to the costly Body Worlds 3 exhibit.

Some more details about this idea
My thinking is that people could pay on a sliding scale to enter the exhibit the scale would be based on how much they could afford ( we should probably start the scale at $2). Since I’m pretty sure the Bodies in the exhibit would like to be paid, each of them will get a cup that they will place in front of them. People will be encouraged to tip the bodies. I would imagine that I could find Bodies for my exhibit off of Craigslist, word of mouth, fliers or through this posting. I have several places in mind that would be pretty easy to book for this exhibit so, I’m not too worried about that. Picking a date and time should be easy enough. Promoting this exhibit should also be a breeze, word will spread pretty fast if people hear there is a cheaper alternative to the Body Worlds exhibit. I would imagine the exhibit will be open for something like 5 hours or so one day so we can cycle a number of people though to see the bodies.

Now, all I have to do is find some people who would be willing to donate their naked bodies to art. If you happen to know or be willing to articipate please contact me. Same goes for a suitable Portland venue. My contact info is in the sidebar of this blog.

I’m also going to be looking for some people who would be interested in helping out making this idea happen.
I would imagine that the proceeds from the exhibit would be part of the Funding Ideas Campaign, so most likely Art Buy the Inch would get some more operating dollars.

When the date for the exhibit is set, I will write an update on MoHDI.

The first Oregon Inventors Showcase of Independent Inventors is being held at Portland State University on April 21st 2007.
