The concept of class war weapons has been on my mind lately. Basically the idea is that in war, the ones that benefit are contractors and weapons manufacturers. Those that profit most from war are those that offer services to all sides fighting in the war.

The idea of class war weapons is kind of interesting to me. It forces me to think differently about the products, services and systems that we currently have in place and how they might effect different classes.

Recently while waiting for a friend I was kind of annoyed by the lack of seating around the subway stop I was at. Then I discovered that someone had taken the liberty to push a Village Voice paper box on it’s side providing an excellent spot to sit in a place where there was no decent public seating. This made me think that they should design all paper boxes to also double as public seating. Thinking about the design of this multipurpose paper boxes I was curious about where and how to put the coin slot and door on these in order to make it not too much of a stretching exercise to pay for and pull out your paper. I suppose though once you get your paper, then you would have a nice place to sit and read it. Future paper boxes might even provide some shelter from the weather.

Thoughts on this coin slot position for a horizontal paper box brought me to the idea of a coin-opp seat. The idea is pretty simple, you put a quarter in, pull the seat down and sit on it, when you get up, the seat retracts and is ready to accept more money.
With coin-opp seating, you can assure that the riff-raff aren’t going to be sitting around (unless of course they can shell out the big bucks for a seat). This is what I might consider as an excellent example of a class war weapon. In contrast, the previous example of simply pushing paper boxes sideways is more of a class war tactic than a weapon.

There are all sorts of class war weapons out there, just got to be aware of them I suppose. Uh.. can anyone tell me what the opposite of barbed wire is?

The best way to cook food is in the dryer!

This concept is rather simple. Basically you throw all the prepared food for your meal into a meal bag along with your spices and flavoring, throw in a bit of water, then you throw that meal bag into the dryer to cook. Soon you will have an tasty and healthy meal, right out of the dryer. Each bite will explode with flavor as the spices are evenly distributed to each piece of food. It’s healthy because you cooked it in the dryer.
If you time it right you can prepare your meal the same time a load of laundry needs to be dried, this will give all your clothes a mouth watering sent that will broadcast to the world what that you Dryyer Meals!

This idea came about after thinking about the mail recipes and what items you could prepare in an envelope. Steve Marsh a famous inventor friend of mine came up with the idea for Spicy Dryer Sheets. Basically this optional flavor sheet would be tossed into the meal bag and would easily flavor your meals with very little work.

I know what you are thinking…. What about dessert?

Well Dryyer Dessert isn’t going to be too difficult to pull off either.

1. Stick your ingredients into an envelope.
2. Mail it.
3. When it arrives, it’s done. Enjoy!

Basically this concept for mail recipes is for foods that may take some time and transit in order for them to be complete, I’m guessing butter, yogurt, curds, some cheeses and probably a whole slew of new foods might fit into this category of mail foods. Tomorrow I’ll be writing about the idea that spun off from this one. Developing ideas is an exciting process. Snack time.. better check the mail…

My friend suggested this design concept for the Two La Hoop…

Basically two Hula Hoops are attached and one person must spin the other around rigorously.

Since moving to NY I’ve found that a good number of my new ideas and concepts are directly influenced by things around me. It’s no quinkydink that a good number of my ideas happen while in the subway and are subway related. I suppose a good portion of my written stand up material is also subway related. Idle time and observation are some excellent tools for developing ideas. Imagine if we all had to spend time idling and observing in places where there is a crucial need for ideas and solutions that will help save lives.

With a couple of pieces of double sided tape and few spare hours I’ve turned this recyclable into a reusable.

SATURDAY is for the Crafty Single Women:
Attention crafty single babes, based on demographic studies, there is going to be a high concentration of intelligent single men all gathered together at the first annual Brooklyn Comics and Graphics and Lions and Cougars Festival
It’s your chance to see some of your favorite independent comics, go to panel discussions and see awesome presentations as well browse through your pick of choice single men at the festival.
Show up, have some fun and remember this awesome piece of advice…
You should meet your next boyfriend before it gets dark out. (you can’t trust anyone after the Sun goes down)

Sunday is for the Single Man Geek:
Research shows there are going to be a lot of crafty, intelligent and single women at this BUST Holiday Craftactular holiday event. If you haven’t already bought everyone comics for the holidays, why not try pick up some of the hottest holiday gifts you can find at this BUST event. In addition to selecting some some fine hand made crafts, you can attempt at making impressive conversation by busting out some great lines like “Can I craft your phone number?” and “Craft you out on a date?”. I’m pretty sure Women stuck at a table for several hours are going to enjoy talking with single men hunting for a girlfriend at a feminist craft show. It’s probably what the magazine intended when they decided to put on an event like this.
